TIAA Customer Service Reviews: Pros

* Financially sound: AM Best gives TIAA an A++ (Superior) rating for financial strength.

* The National Association of Insurance Commissioners has consistently rated TIAA as good in customer satisfaction (NAIC).

TIAA Customer Service Reviews: Cons

After 2019, TIAA will no longer issue new life insurance plans. Many TIAA life insurance products have limited internet information.

* Non-existence of whole life insurance: TIAA does not provide entire life insurance.

Plan Options

However, TIAA does not provide any new insurance till 2020. This covers term, universal, variable universal, and monthly income replacement plans.

Term Insurance

TIAA offers term life insurance as a temporary solution. The policies have an expiration date of 10-30 years. An early death benefit is paid out if the policyholder dies before the policy expires.

TIAA offers two types of universal life insurance. Universal life insurance is provided for single and dual policyholders, with survivorship possible for a spouse or business partner.

Universal Intelligent Life Insurance

Universal life insurance allows you to build up a cash value that accumulates interest over time.

TIAA’s Intelligent Life Universal Life Insurance offers survivorship or not. It has a 3% guaranteed minimum interest rate and no surrender fees.

Previously, policies were calculated using standard rate factors used by most life insurance firms. This comprises the type of policy, the quantity of coverage, and the policy’s term. Insurance companies look at your age, health, and medical history. Most insurers base pricing on sex at birth, not current gender identity.

To see how TIAA stacks up against the competition, we compared it to New York Life, the country’s largest and one of our top selections for 2022.

New York Life outperforms TIAA in terms of market share. It has twice the plans and dividends. However, TIAA does not offer new policies, thus New York Life is the preferable alternative for a new policy.
