About Delta Credit Union

Delta Community Credit Union is an American credit union with its main office in the state of Georgia. Delta Community Credit Union has more than 430,000 members and $8.5 billion in assets. USA Credit Unions says that Delta Community is one of the top 25 largest credit unions in the U.S. People from 16 counties in the Atlanta metro area are members. Delta Air Lines, Chick-fil-A, RaceTrac, and UPS are all clients of the credit union. As a credit union that doesn’t make money, any money they make has to go back to their members. Credit Unions Online says that Delta Community Credit Union is the biggest credit union in Georgia. Delta Community is a state-chartered credit union that is run by the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance and is insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. There are thirty branches. It is a part of CO-OP, which used to be called CU Service Centers. CO-OP is a nationwide group of credit unions with more than 5,000 branches that work together. 

In February 1940, eight people who worked for Delta Air Lines in Atlanta, Georgia, put up $45 each to start the Delta Employees Credit Union. On March 8, 1940, Delta Employees Credit Union got a charter that gave it permission to do business for 20 years. The first board of directors was put together a month later. The board voted that anyone who works for Delta could join. By the end of 1940, they had about $2,000 in assets. 

The charter for the credit union was renewed by the board in 1960. By 1983, the company had more than $200 million in assets. Delta Employees Credit Union was the biggest credit union in Georgia back then, and it still is. 

Delta Employees Credit Union celebrated its 50th anniversary on March 8, 1990. 

The credit union changed its policy in July 1994 to say, “Once a member, always a member.” This got rid of the requirement that a person had to work for Delta in order to be a member. Parents of current and former Delta employees in good standing who were still in good standing were also allowed to join. In 1995, there were more than 100,000 people who were members of the Delta Employees Credit Union. Children, grandparents, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and their spouses, as well as the member’s own children, grandparents, and grandchildren, could all join. In 2001, members’ domestic partners were added to the group. 

Delta Employees Credit Union changed its name to Delta Community Credit Union in October 2005 to show that it was open to everyone in the metro Atlanta area, not just Delta employees. 

In 2010, members of Delta Community could choose to use Mobile Banking. 

In 2013, Hank Halter was named President and CEO of Delta Community Credit Union. The Atlanta Business Chronicle also named him one of the top 100 business leaders in Atlanta. 

Delta Community opened its 29th branch in May 2019. In July of this year, more than 400,000 people joined Delta Community.
