Some Chase co-branded airline credit cards are giving new members a lot of money to help pay for their next trip to another country.
People who sign up for the British Airways Visa Signature® Card, Iberia Visa Signature® Card, and Aer Lingus Visa Signature® Card now get 100,000 Avios points after spending $5,000 on. This is a new offer.
It could be worth $1,000 if you assume that each point has a value of 1 cent. But it’s easy to get more value than that with the right redemption. Every year, each of the three cards comes with a $95 fee. But the welcome bonus can cover it for a long time. There are a lot of things you can do with your Avios. You can use them to buy plane tickets, upgrade your class, rent a car, and even pay for a cool travel experience like whale watching!
As a US-based traveler, this card may not be your first choice. But using Avios points on American Airlines and Alaska Airlines flights can be a great deal.
There are even more benefits for people who open a British Airways credit card:
People who have a Visa Signature Card from British Airways get some extra benefits.
New British Airways cardholders get 10% off BA flights from the U.S. if they book through the website that came with their welcome package.
And if you don’t want to fly BA, that’s fine. It’s possible to use your BA Avios to book domestic flights on the other 13 airlines that are part of the Oneworld® Alliance, such as American Airlines and Alaska Airlines, when you use them. Avios points can often be a better deal than using points from American Airlines or Alaska Airlines to get a free flight or a hotel stay.
People who have a British Airways Visa Signature Card can get a Travel Together Ticket if they spend $30,000 on their card in the year before that.
There are perks for people who have British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus cards.
It doesn’t stop there: British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus cardholders can also get more Avios on eligible flights and hotel stays in the first 18 months of having their card.
The more money you spend on eligible flights, the more Avios you will get back in Avios. During the first 18 months, you get 3 Avios per dollar. When you book your hotel room directly with the hotel, you get 3 Avios per dollar. Earn 2X Avios per dollar after 18 months.
These three Avios cards also have no foreign transaction fees for people who use them when they travel.
Who can get the 100k Avios welcome bonus?
As a new cardholder who hasn’t earned an Avios bonus in the last 24 months, you must be able to get the extra Avios.
There are two things you need to do before you can apply for the Iberia Visa Signature card and get the 100,000 Avios welcome bonus:
These three co-branded cards are also reportedly subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule, which says that you can’t get the card if you’ve opened five or more personal credit cards from any company in the last 24 months. Suppose you’ve opened two Citi cards and three Amex cards in the last 24 months. If you want to open a new Chase card, you’ll likely be turned down unless your 5/24 score goes down. You can’t get around the 5/24 rule unless you wait for a new account to be over 24 months old.
You can get the 100,000 point bonus on each of these cards if you meet the requirements.
